Stephen F. Stephens, 74, of rural Avilla, passed away at his home on July 2, 2017 at 9:10 p.m. surrounded by his family.\nHe was born to Clifford and Ruth (Barrick) Stephens on September 1, 1942, in Marion. He spent his formative years in La Fontaine graduating from La Fontaine High School in 1960.\nIn 1964 Steve volunteered to serve in the United States Army. His bravery during The Vietnam War earned him a Purple Heart.\nOn August 19, 1967 he married the love of his life Linda Buckner. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary next month.\nSteve was a lifelong fan and Stock Holder of the Green Bay Packers. He was also a devoted fan of IU Basketball up until September 10, 2000.\nHe was a member of Sugar Grove Church of God.\nSteve is survived by his wife, Linda; three daughters, Kristine (Raymond) Webster of Granger, Tracy (Ed) Wright of Fort Wayne and Stephanie Stephens of Auburn; a son, Brian (Noelani) Stephens of Churubusco; nine grandchildren.\nHe is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Kelley Stephens-Mohler.\nNo one was more excited than Steve, when on November 8, 2016 we voted to "Make America Great Again".\nFuneral services will be Friday July 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home 206 N. Main St Churubusco, IN 46723\nCalling will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., calling also one hour prior to the service on Friday.\nLongtime family friend, Pastor Rick Van Horn will officiate.\nBurial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.\nMemorials may be directed to Vietnam War Wall Memorial or S.A.R.C.
