Sharon G. Bertrand, 77, of Columbia City, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Parkview Medical Center.\n\nShe was born in Fort Wayne on December 14, 1945, to the late Lee Roy and Frances (Liby) Blough. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne and graduated from Northside High School. She never lived more than 32 miles from the hospital she was born in. She received her bachelor's and master's degree from Purdue. \n\nSharon was married to Russel Bertrand in Watseka, IL, on February 18, 1966. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2014.\n\nShe retired as a teacher for Fort Wayne Community Schools after 32 years. In her retirement, she continued to teach as a substitute teacher for Smith-Green Community Schools for many years. She volunteered at Faith Christian Academy of Whitley County for several years.\n\nSharon was an active member of Collins United Methodist Church.\n\nShe enjoyed working in her giant garden with Russell and spending time with her two grandsons.\n\nSharon is survived by a beloved son, Todd (Catherine) Bertrand; cherished grandsons, Alexander and Nathaniel Bertrand; a sister-in-law, Etta Jo Elliott; a brother-in-law, John Abbott.\n\nIn addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Susanne Abbott.\n\nFuneral Services will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.\n\nThe family will receive family and friends on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\n\nBurial will take place at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.\n\nSharon's love for her family and friends showed through her daily. In Sharon's honor the family is requesting memorials be directed to a family in need after a tragic loss.
