Robert M. Dillman, known affectionately as "Bob" to those who loved him, passed away on July 19, 2023, just shy of his 94th birthday.
He was born in Denver, Indiana, on August 23, 1929, to the late Webster and Chloe (Alspach) Dillman.
He served in the United States Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict.
Bob was married in Peru, Indiana to Beatrice M. Copeland, on April 15, 1955. The couple settled on Wappes Road in 1964, where they raised their seven kids.
Bob was compassionate, thoughtful, loving, and cherished his family. His dedicated spirit was evident in his 43-year-long career in the railroad. He continued working for 12 years at the Auto Auction.
Bob enjoyed farming, woodworking, reading and watching Westerns. He was also passionate about square dancing and took great pride in meticulously mowing his yard. He was a man who loved to share his opinions and good advice, making him a wise figure in his family. As the saying goes, "The greatest wisdom is in simplicity. Love, respect, tolerance, sharing, gratitude, forgiveness. It's not complex or elaborate. The real knowledge is free."
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beatrice Dillman; five sons, Rudy (Camen) Lewis, Cris (Sue) Dillman, Kevin (Julie) Dillman, David Dillman, and Brent (Jill) Dillman; a daughter, Wendy (Curtis) Brincefield; a sister-in-law, Carol Dillman; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Ronald Lewis; a daughter-in-law, Patty Dillman; a grandson, Chad Aaron Brincefield; three brothers, Glen (Jackie) Dillman, Marvin (Leona) Dillman, and Kenneth Dillman; a sister, Gweneth Dillman.
A Funeral service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel. The family will receive family and friends beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Burial will take place later in the Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco.
